![]() Now i'm trying to solve some immediate problems creating quick 'n dirty setups, and then i will have some time to rethink completely the realt thing. Having a separate list of dialogues and a list of custom actions i'm still trying to understand what is triggered when, in order to gain better control of the setup process. If i install the files in the default instance, and immediately after go to install the same file into another instance i'm told the required space is 0 instead of the real space required: when i update the default instances the setup correctly gives the difference of size ad data cost. My problem is that i set the at startup i set the default APPDIR values (different names because i have several features and some subfeatures) and the disk space cost for each feature is estimated at startup, but it obviously should change after you execute BrowseDlg and select another target directory. In the future i'm planning to write an hybrid 32/64 bit setup with a lot of features, but for the moment i'm working to produce a quick 'n dirty simple setup.Īt the moment i'm not fighting with a multiple instance setup, i'm not generating a GUID for the product (so no uninstall but this is not a problem now) and i enabled BrowseDlg to change the target directory. It's an addon for an application written by another company that supports multiple instances of the app on the same server, basically i copy some data files inside a directory, write some keys on the registry, and little more. I am building a setup that copies several files into a directory (and something more, like registry, etc, but doesn't matter now). Now he requested me to tell him if it's OK to buy it, and i was digging some of the little problems i still have before saying him that it's OK. I told my boss that our (very) old Installshield needs to be updated, but told him also that in my opinion it's a pile of crap, and proposed AI instead.
